是副词，意思是：除...以外

当做介词用的时候意思是：
除...之外, 除去, 除掉
例句：
We all went except John.
除了约翰外, 我们都去了

做连词时候意思是：
只是, 除...之外
I would come except it rains.
要是不下雨, 我就来。

做动词时候意思是：
除掉, 免除(from)
You will all be punished, I can except no one.
你们都得受罚, 一个也不能例外。
