这句话本身是错的。
1、句序错了 what's something you can/could/should do for the test

2、这样的句子不能是提问句。what are the things you … 这样才是提问的。或者 is there something/anything you can do for the test? （something是确认你肯定有事情，anything没有，你可以没事情做）

这句话肯定是有上下文的, 这人在问话前,有人已经说他为测验做了些什么,例如: I will do something for the test.
在这样的语境下,这人想知道他所提及的"something", 所以才问:
what is something...
其实意思和:what do you do for the test?完全一样!
他加上这个something是为了突出.没有实际意义.
