represent 的使用范围比stand for 要广。我觉得应该是可以用stand for的地方都可以用represent；但是当代表国家或者某个团体的时候只能有represent。

represent 多用来指实体代表；stand for多用在抽象物体代表， eg.what's the five stars stand for in our national flag?
