后面是一个非限制性定语从句,而且是虚拟语气,如果变成一个独立的句子应该是Without the captain,the team could not have won. 相当于If it had not been the captain,the team could not have won.与过去事实不符.
except 和 that可以连用,只是后面要接一个句子,表示除了.
except that 除了...
后面要跟一个句子,有主语,谓语等.
语法其实是老外的习惯.你看多了自然就觉得这个句子不能用execept that 了.
