　　Significance：
　　The book Sense and Sensibility is called such because of two of the dynamic characters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. The girls, Elinor and Marianne, represent sense and sensibility respectively. Early on in the book is it clear on which character is which. Elinor demonstrates sense through her relationship with Edward Ferrars. Her relationship and affections towards Edward are very casual and proper. She always takes into account others and how her actions will affect them. The polar opposite of Elinor is her sister Marianne. Marianne shows sensibility through her romantic involvements with John Willoughby. When around Willoughby, Marianne wears her heart on her sleeve. This is apparent when Willoughby left her for no apparent reason. Even though Elinor was having her own secret relationship problems she was Marianne’s rock. Through and because of these two women the book earned its name.
