Researchers say, Monday is the day that English people have the strongest tendency towards committing suicide. They think it is because of a feeling of anxiety with facing a new start more than "Monday morning depression" resulting from returning to work. The National Statistic Bureau has made comparison between 35000 suicide issues between the year of 1993 and 2002, and said, "suicide mostly committed on Mondays, the same with men and women. The "Monday effect" does not vary along with the differences of ages, ways of suicide and marriage situation." Previous researches showed the "Monday effect" had something to do with work. While the National Statistic Bureau noticed that this effect manifested itself obviously among people above 75, most of whom are not working.They said,"this effect coincides with our theory, that is the distribution state of suicide in a week has something to do with the impact of new starts rather than work."
