Chiang Kai-shek’s Former Residence

On December 1, 1927, Chiang Kai-shek and Song Meiling got married. Finally,Song Ziwen bought a large enough western-style garden house as a wedding gift for Song Meiling which stood on what is today’s 9 Dongping Road.

The residence is a French-style building. It is composed of one main building and two auxiliary buildings. In front of the residence there is a rockery carved with Chiang Kaishek’s inscription “Love House”. Today, the residence is used as the office building for Shanghai Beijing Opera Troupe.

Around this villa there were many properties that belonged to the Songs, the Kongs’ etc. Now these villas have been turned into restaurantsor bars where a lot of Shanghainese spend their leisure time.

蒋宋住宅区

衡山路一带星罗密布着一群花园洋房，这里曾是蒋介石及其军官下属的住宅区。蒋介石与宋美龄结婚前,在上海的住所大多是临时的,到了1927年蒋介石与宋美龄结婚,才在上海真正安置了一个家。不过这所住宅也不是蒋介石掏钱买的,而是他大舅子——宋美龄的哥哥宋子文买来作为宋美龄的陪嫁。这幢法式花园洋房位于法租界贾尔业爱路9号(现东平路)。
