Born on July 27, 1970 somewhere in Denmark, actor Nikolaj Coster Waldau made a name for himself in his native land before striking out for fame and fortune in America. He starred in a slew of Danish features, most notably in “Nattevagten” (1994), a tense psychological thriller about a college student who takes a job as a night watchman, while a serial killer is on the loose murdering prostitutes. He later appeared in the British-made “Bent” (1997), about two gay men (Clive Owen and Brian Webber) trying to flee Nazi Germany after their lifestyles are discovered, then costarred in “Enigma” (2001), a plodding World War II yarn about the British attempt to crack the Nazi’s famed Enigma Code. After getting lost in the shuffle of the ensemble cast in “Black Hawk Down” (2002), Waldau returned to Denmark to star in “Stealing Rembrandt” (2003), a caper comedy about a group of misfit thieves out to rip off two famous paintings, including a $15 million Rembrandt.
