意象派虽没有具体的理论，但却有自己的美学主张，大致可以概括为：使用普通语言，但是用准确的字眼 ；避免有音无意、用作装饰的诗歌惯用词汇；自由选材；创造新的节奏表达新的情绪；使用意象呈现出具体、坚定和肯定的画面；暗示出意思，而不是直抒胸臆。

although Imagism doesn't have specific theory, they have their own Imagist manifestoes. In general, those are:
they use the language of common language and employ the exact
word;
they avoid using the nearly-exact, the merely decorative word and figurative devices;
they believe that the individuality of a poet may often be better to be expressed in free verse than in conventional forms;
they have the absolute freedom in the choice of subject;
By the new verse they produce a poetry that is hard and clear, which is neither blurred nor indefinite,in order to show new attitude;
they use implication instead of frank expressions.
