铁饼的转动有利于铁饼在飞行时的平稳（因为转动使它具有了角动量，它就有了较好的维持转轴方向的能力，就象陀螺那样），亦即不轻易在空气阻力下翻滚，这样在它上抛过程中，几乎都是铁饼的侧面对着迎面而来的气流，这样空阻力就小，飞得就高就远。下落时，则有大半的底面对着气流，增大下落的阻力，在空中停留时间加长，也有利于落地点更远。
其他的物理内容主要就是斜上抛运动以及动能与势能间转化等，这个高一都有学，就不多说了。
