other是代词（形容词性代词）和形容词，后面必须接一个名词，other+名词=others。例如：
other students=others，但是在这的others是一种替代，根据上下文的不同代替不同的名词。
the other与the others的用法和other与others的用法一样，即：
the other+名词=the others，同样the others也是一种替代，根据上下文来确定具体替代什么。
然后就是other和the other的区别，它们都是“其他的”的意思。区别就是前者是一种泛指，而后者是特指。

other 单体（泛指）
others 复数（泛指）
the other两者之中的另一者
the others特定范围内的另一部分
another 指另一个，对总数没有要求

other 一般作代词形容词，单独不用。
others 其它，与some相对；
the other两个中的一个，剩下的那一个
the others 剩下的，这里剩下的是复数名词
another 另外一个

看个例子：
I want to buy socks cause one is alright,the other is missing. When I entered the shop, another boy came and asked: Do you have other colors except red? The shop asistant answered: We have some yellow ones, but the others are all red.
