钓鱼城古战场遗址位于合川市城东5公里嘉陵江畔，占地2.5平方公里。公元1259年7月，蒙古军队分兵三路伐宋，大汗蒙哥在钓鱼城军民的顽强抗击下，被炮火击成重伤，后病逝于北温泉温泉寺。蒙哥死后，蒙军内部发生争夺王位的战争，削弱了进攻南宋和向欧洲扩张的力量，延续了南宋的统治，改变了世界的格局，钓鱼城被中外历史学家誉为“上帝折鞭之处”。现存遗址包括古城门、水军码头、炮台、哨台、栈道等军事设施，是国内保存较为完好的古战场遗址之一。现为全国重点文物保护单位。
