还没有最终确定，但素有“体育歌王”之称的意大利著名作曲家莫洛德尔向北京奥组委提交的专门为北京奥运会创作的歌曲《永远的朋友》-forever friends，最有希望成为主题曲。莫洛德尔是1984年洛杉矶奥运会的主题曲《冲刺》、1988年汉城奥运会主题曲《手拉手》，1990年意大利世界杯的主题曲《意大利之夏》的创作者。 此次创作歌曲《永远的朋友》，莫洛德尔还邀请了中国古典钢琴家孔祥东与之合作。
