每个句子只能有一个主语，当然你会说用and等连词的句子会有两个主语，但是那是两个句子，不是么？好的，The village seemed deserted。是一个句子，The village 是唯一的主语，接下来the only sin of life_being______some trees waving in the howling wind.是修饰前面的句子的，但是它又不能有自己的主语，所以将be变为being，因而the only sin of life_being_being_____some trees waving in the howling wind只是一个“独立主格结构”，而不是句子，这样就不违背“每个句子只有一个主语”原则。
再举一个例子：Are you mind me opening the door?
me opening the door中me只是逻辑主语，不是真正意义上的主语，为什呢？因为opening是现在分词，不能做谓语。所以这是个“独立宾格结构”

（二） 独立主格结构的特点：
(1）独立主格结构的逻辑主语与句子的主语不同，它独立存在。

2）名词或代词与后面的分词，形容词，副词，不定式，介词等是主谓关系。

3）独立主格结构一般有逗号与主句分开。

举例：

= When the test was finished, we began our holiday.
