为什么是look sb in the eye而不是eyes？

是不是很多类似词组都是单数？

我是这样觉得，当成固定词组来背，并没有说用不用复数的问题
像in the eyes of the law 根据法律
give one's eyes for 为了...愿付出极大的代价

而且词组in the eye(s) of 在...心目中, 在...看来，是加不加s都可以的，个人觉得只能背了

look sb. in the eye 正视/直视某人
不一定都是单数
