大体意思是：母亲是一种奇怪的生物，从堕落最多仅仅指的是牙签上残留这酱菜的那个时代起就是如此。

在这里sophistication我取了堕落的解释，听起来合理一些。就是说从很早很早以前母亲就是一种奇怪的生物了。

这个句子是同位语结构，mum和a strange creature...是同位语，不过在中文翻译里面一般可以加上“是XX”。
