关于seat的用法

为什么横线处填were seated呢？为什么用被动语态.

he bagan his liceure 这是主句。他开始他的演讲。
seat 及物动词，后面要加宾语的，但是这个后面没有宾语，只能变成被动语态。被动形式be done

1. sit是不及物动词,只能说Sb/sth sit (介宾/副词)
2. seat是及物动词,结构是seat sb/oneself (介宾/副词)
所以说某人坐在哪里用sb be seated (介宾/副词).
如: His parents sat on the sofa.
=His parents were seated on the sofa.

be seated 是固定搭配。。跟时态无关
