在现代服装的发展中，服装材料的创新变得尤为重要。纤维艺术在服装设计中的创新越来越受到人们的关注。近年来，对纤维艺术的研究也称为一大热点。在环保问题上，可以利用加工过的废品来制作的环保材质的纤维服装的材料。纤维艺术是集实用功能与审美价值于一体的艺术形式。其特定材质的运用和表现形式的多样化，使纤维艺术独具平面性、立体性及空间性的诸多造型特点。而纤维材料质地本身所具有的物理性与化学性，又使纤维艺术作品具有御寒、保暖、防潮、吸光、隔音等功能效用。纤维艺术服装强调了艺术形式的多样性和多维性、强调了材料和技术的综合性、多重性，反映了隐藏在视觉形态中的时代特征。经典的纤维艺术服装大师三宅一生就是惯用褶皱来达到他的艺术创作效果，运用褶皱表现他的个性，是他的出发点之一。同时他也因对纤维艺术深有研究，而使其的褶皱表现方式特别丰富。纤维艺术是突破了原本服装面料的范围，把平面的服装面料变成立体的，加强了服装本身的活泼性。本文就纤维艺术的材料特点、表现形式、在服装中的造型、面料、色彩上的创新做了客观的总结分析，指出了目前纤维艺术服装研究中存在的问题，并对其应用和发展前景进行了展望。
