第一空用when是引导非限制性定语从句，补充说明a long time ago,也就是when代替a long time ago在从句中作时间状语，意思就是说在很久以前这个地方被烧成平地。

我个人认为B也可以，有没人能解释B为什么错？

第一空用when指代时间.楼上的~~能在定语从句中代时间的只能用when，in which是表示在……之中，如
---Mom,what did your doctor say?
---He adviced me to live in the room ( in which )the air is fresher.
另外，能表示时间段的短语是during which，如
They stayed with me for three weeks,(during which) they drank up all the wine I had.
但题目中给的是一个时间点不是时间段~~~

第二空比较简单，就是用物主代词whose表示 ……的……
