既然大家都认为不可以，书上为何这么说？

Up to three times 是 时间状语成分 先去掉
If only one engine was used. 是 条件状语成分 也去掉
剩下 More of the web was scanned than.
这个 than 没有任何实际意义啊？！
如果去掉就说的通了 去掉后 more of the web 作 主语 这也不涉及什么 介词结构作主语啊
介词短语在句首，句子用完全倒装,这里做壮语...主语是the word 谓语是is...

这里的主语是(up to three times) more of the web ,括号部分的介词短语,是时间壮语...后面的才是主语..而was scanned是谓语...明白?
不是主语 In the beginning is the word 中In the beginning 前置起强调作用,可以换成 The word is in the beginning.
