用is还是are
我自己觉得是are，但搜索看到有一首歌叫
There Is A Number Of Small Things （things可数复数！）
网页搜索的结果两种都有啊

There is a number of negro in the city.

这个是我在爱词霸上看到的，跟你的题目很接近吧，我觉得应该用are 那首歌名是我看到的唯一的例外，可能是有别的含义吧。
