USA的全写是United States of America阿美利坚合众共和国，一般人又简称之为United States美国，而很多美国人就说The States.

举例说：Are you in the States now?你现在在美国吗？而不会说Are you in the United States now?如果说单数的话，通常是在同一州的人和对方说话，譬如说大家都是加州Califonia State的人，就会说I'm not in the state right now, I'm traveling in Washington State
