关于rather than的问题

rather than 连用后接动词时，表示“而不是”的意思；用在这句子里，不符合题意思。所以要分开考虑，所以than在这里作介词，介词后接动词的动名词形式。

有很多句型
1would rather do sth than do sth 宁可做某事而不做~
would rather sb.did sth
2rather than 后面还可以加名词，EG:The parents should be blamed rather than the children. 应该受责备的是父母而不是孩子。
3rather than 后面当然还可以加动名词

这里用ing 是因为后面的 renting a place 是一件事， renting做动名词!
一般情况是用原型，不过前面如果有要用ing 的，后面也要对应，还有一些固定词组，比如prefer to +ing ....rather than +ing.....

rather than 后面不是可以直接加动词原形是不对的。
rather than 后面如果是加动词的话就是用inG形式，但是说要为什么，这个大家都不知道，问为什么的感觉就像是A后面为什么是B一样，大家都会回答：
