H.264有两种熵编码的方式：基于上下文的自适应变长码（Context-based Adaptive Variable Length Coding，CAVLC）和基于上下文的自适应二进制算术编码（Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding，CABAC）；如果不是预测残差，H.264采用Exp-Golomb码或CABAC编码。
