首先你可以把定语从句拆解出来。
who played basketball in the playground 是一个完整的句子。
先行词是The boy.
所以这个复杂的句子可以拆成两句
The boy played basketball in the playground .
The boy was famous athlete in our campus.
这样你就容易理解了。

碰到定语从句 第一步就是找出句中的两个谓语动词。
谓语动词就是执行动作的词语。例如：have,do,play,make等等。
抑或著是助动词，例如：can,should,be等等。
