we were proved right中的were是不是多余？

高二英语必修5第四单元阅读文章中有这样的一个句子：we were proved right。prove也可以作联系动词用，后面跟形容词作表语。请问专家们，句子中的were是不是可以去掉？
我想对这个句子要补充的是下面的句子：The task proved more difficult than we'd thought.是正确这一点毫无疑问的。是不是在这个句子中，可以加上were？
