论文共分三个部分,第一章主要介绍了《德伯家的苔丝》作者托马斯.哈代的生平和对这部小说的整体介绍.第二章通过分析当时的社会背景, 苔丝家庭背景以及小说中两个重要的主人公Alec和Angel的性格，来对苔丝悲剧形成的原因进行详细的分析。在结论中再次强调出苔丝的悲剧形成的原因，以及作者这部小说让人们看到了在那个时代的贫穷女性的生活状态。
