英语问题：名词+of 能当动词使用吗？

比如这句“
The basic aim of this institution is the conquest of disease.
本协会的基本宗旨是征服疾病。
能解释下conquest of的结构吗？
还有比如 waste of time 的结构
这条语法叫什么 有没有正规的出处？？

“名词+of”并不是作为动词，而是作为表语与be动词一起，代替动词，如
"is the conquest of" = "to conquer"

个人认为。应该是：
of + 名词，相当于“名词相对应的形容词”吧。
因为“be of 名词”=“be 形容词”
books of value=valuable books
it is of use=it is useful
it is of great use=it is greatly useful
of disease相当于“疾病的”形容词
