One morning, a woman came out of her house and saw three old men with long white beards (胡须) sitting in her front yard (院子). She did not know them. She said, “I don’t think I know you, but you must be hungry. Please come in and have something to eat.”
“We do not go into a house together,” they replied.
“Why?” she asked. One of the old men said, “His name is Wealth (财富),” he said pointing at one of his friends, and then he said pointing at another one, “He is Success, and I am Love.” Then he added, “Now go back to your house and ask your husband and children which one of us you want in your home.”
The woman went in and told her husband what Love said. Her husband was happy. “How nice,” he said. “Let’s invite Wealth. Let him come in.” His wife didn’t agree, “My dear, why don’t we invite Success?” Their daughter said, “Wouldn’t it be better to invite Love? Our home will then be full of love.” At last, they all agreed, and said, “Yes, go and invite Love to be our gues
