Nonfictional novel是非虚构类小说。
非虚构类小说指的是以小说的形式，用文艺的笔法报道事实。人物和事件是真实的，但某些心理的描写和不影响人物基本态度与事实的细节可以虚构。其主要有以下六个特色：
一、描写戏剧性的场面。这类生动的描写，使一篇新闻报道读来犹如短篇小说，甚饶兴趣。
　　二、尽量记录对白。这种写法却与通常新闻报道不同。有时开场的竟是两个人的对白，犹如短篇小说写法一样。
　　三、详尽形容新闻人物的服装，态度，手势等及所在地的家具，装饰等。这类形容与描绘，在电影明星这类人物的访问记中特别突出。
　　四、观点。在写作新闻稿时，观点不一定是记者的观点，而可以用新闻中某个人物的观点。
　　五、独白。正如写小说一样，作者可以代表人物自思或自语。这里指的是书，不是新闻稿。
　　六、角色的拼合。也正如写小说一样，有时将几个角色的特性拼为一个。
在非虚构类小说中，比较有代表性的是杜鲁门·卡波特的《在冷血中》（In Cold Blood）。
