be afraid of/to的问题用法

我有一道英语题不太明白!`
the little girl is afraid ___the darkness and she is afraid __alone.

B.to,to sleep
C.of,to sleep
D.to,of sleeping

我就不明白为什么前面那一空必须要用be afraid of,而不能用be afraid to,而后面两个都行?

be afraid of后面加上的是名词或名词短语，代词，动名词或动名词短语。
be afraid to后面加的是动词原形。

be afraid of doing sth(害怕做某事)
如:I'm afraid of talking to him.
我害怕和他聊天.
be afraid to do sth.(不敢做某事)
如:I'm afraid to talk to him ,because he is too serious.
我不敢跟他说话,因为他太严肃了.
