I went to Bergen (Norway, not NJ) for Christmas. It was very quiet, very few tourists. I stayed in a wonderful hotel, well located, very comforable, that compared favorably with the Rome Airport Hilton. I did a little sightseeing and shopping on Tuesday. None of the tourist sights were open on Christmas Eve and the stores closed at noon. I found a fish shop that had fried fish balls and fish cakes to take out, so I bought some and ate in my room. They were delicious.

Unfortunately, almost everything was closed and I ended up having Christmas dinner at the Radisson Hotel, which was one of the few places open. They had a buffet with many salads, which I do not eat; baked haddock with butter, roast beef with gravy, what I think was whale, which I didn't try since one of my German friends advised me not to eat it (she had some when she was in Norway some years ago and said it's terrible); and, of course, boiled potatoes, which were excellent (Norwegians eat lots of p
