答案是D，不知道为什么，希望清楚一点。

see sb./sth. doing
本句中 pinned to the door 做的是message的后置定语。把这点定语成分圈起来，剩下的就是see sb./sth. doing。尽管这样解释也不确切，但是你可以这样理解。严格意义上说reading在这儿做的是一个补足语。
I saw a message pinned to the door... 完整的应该是I saw a message which was pinned to the door ...
