选A的意思是在这一地区农民是由百分之三十五的人口组成的。如果改为Nearly 35% of the population are composed of peasent in this area.就对了

A B都表示 前者是由后者组成的，也就是后面的东西构成了peasants，显然不符。
D = “构成；占”——农民占该地区人口将近35%。

C是错的，如果说成consist of就和AB意思一样。
