你记住了，你所学的there be结构，其实从本质上说，是一种完全倒装结构，这个be可以换为任何动词，主动被动都可以，比如There was a man/There lived a man.从语法角度而言，这两句都一样。
如果你看不懂这句话，把它的完全倒装结构去掉就行了，其实这句话就是A strange dialogue of signs and gestures was established between them (there).
