一道SAT的题

E.foreshadows 预见

这里有"ancient","nineteenth century" 时间对比，说明philosophers生在nihilism之前很多年，所以用“foreshadows”

但丝毫没提到disseminates...

B.disseminates
to spread information or ideas to as many people as possible
一般是要人作主语，这里的主语是skepticism，抽象概念，不能作disseminate的主语。

E.foreshadows
to show or say that something will happen in the future
一般是抽象概念作主语，比如：
The revolution foreshadowed an entirely new social order.

ancient 和 early nineteenth century 是时间前后的对比，选 foreshadow 可以突显这一特点。

如果用 disseminate， 应突显 nihilism 在地区性的影响的扩大，而这句话明显没有指明这一点。varieties 只是“种类”的意思，并不是像 diversity 指多样性，所以填词的线索不在 varieties。
