An Adventure

One morning, when we had been riding on our bikes for five hours, we came to a bridge where the railway crossed a pond. For 30 feet there was nothing but the widely-spaced wooden sleepers under our wheels,and nothing to stop us falling into the steaming pond below if we we lost our balance Right under the bridge lay the body of a dead cow. I watched Mat as he came near to the bridge and rode straight over, without ever, slowing down. I stopped.
“What’s up?”he cried out from the other side.
“I’m not riding over that thing. If I slip, I’ll be in there with that cow.” “There’s nothing to it.I just did it ,didn’t I ?
“You’re stronger and taller.My feet don’t touch the ground.You do it for me!”

一天早晨，我们骑了5个小时的自行车，我们到了一座桥边，那里铁道横穿过池塘。有段30英尺的路段除了宽阔的枕木，什么都没，没有任何东防护栏。如果失去平衡，那就只有掉进池塘里跟那条死牛做伴了。我看着MAT径直向桥边骑来，直接骑过桥去，压根都没减速。我却停了下来。
“怎么了？”他桥那头问我。
“我不想从那种东西上骑过去。如果我滑倒了，我就会掉在那头四牛旁边。”
“没事的。我不是刚刚骑过来了吗？”
“你比我壮，比我高。我双脚不能触地。还是你来替我骑过去吧。”
MAT告诉我在那种情况下，有劲也使不上的。我知道，他至少在一个小时内不会过来帮我。太阳晒在我脸上，火辣辣的。汗从额头淌下，流进眼睛里，浸湿了衬衫，仅仅贴在身上。自己努把力而不是等MAT来帮我！我退后几步，靠着惯性我最终冲了过去。MAT说的对：困难都是想出来的！

"怎么了?"他从另一边嚷道.
"我不要从那上面骑过去,要是我滑倒,我会掉进去和那头牛一起的!"
"没那么难,我刚刚不是已经过去了吗?"
"你比我强壮又比我高,我的角都够不到踩地的,你帮我起过去吧!"
Mat说着更力量无关,然后就骑走了.我知道他至少还会给我一个小时的时间过去才会回来找我.太阳猛烈地照着我的脸,我的汗从头顶滚进了眼睛,还把我的衣服渗透,粘在了我的身上.我决定自己试试,不要等着Mat回来找我,我轻易地翻过去了.Mat说得很对,困难只存在在我们的头脑里.
