Campbell, Ballard C., in an American History Online article from the Disasters, Accidents, and Crisis in American History entitled “Great Depression,” claims that the depression of the 1930s was the worst economic collapse in American history.
His purpose is to state what happened during the Great Depression, such as the causes of this disaster, the crisis and embarrassment among American people.
Although several generations of Americans Assumed that the stock market crash was the principal cause of the Great Depression, just as President Roosevelt blamed the practices of the unscrupulous money changers for the economic “crisis” that gripped the country, Campbell gives us another opinion—the depression was largely of foreign origin. As we can read in the article, after the World War I “American loans became crucial to the maintenance of this unstable financial situation…When credit tightened in Europe, foreign orders for American goods declined. Within se
