In the step and shoot delivery, the leaves were supposed to
be static while the beam was on. However, in previous
work,7 we have observed that the log files indicate leaf motion
during beam-on time, often at the end of a segment. We
compared the log files and EPID data to the MLC instruction
files for field segment shapes. The field shapes from the three
sets agreed well, however 20 out of 62 segments present in
the instruction file were dropped missing in the log files
and EPID measurements. The log files showed leaf motions
at the end of 33 of the 42 segments with increased fluence.
This would seem to indicate leaf motion with beam on. However,
the EPID measurements showed leaf motions in only 7
of the 42 segments. The 7 observed leaf motions ranged
between 0.5 and 2.5 mm. The EPID data were more reliable
due to the fact that the camera was gated to the PFN of the
linear accelerator and time resolved every s
