拒绝英国授予的爵位、封号和名誉职位，学生退出英办学校；立法机关、法院及政府中服务的人员离职；家家户户恢复手工纺织，提倡国货，抵制英货；在运动最后阶段拒绝纳税。

“非暴力”抵抗运动虽然在一定程度上束缚了群众斗争的主动性，限制了人民争取独立斗争的范围和手段，但在当时的历史条件之下仍然是一个较好的斗争方式和手段，它对于团结印度各个阶层的人民，反抗英国的殖民统治具有重大的意义。它是一种特殊的斗争方式，不是逃避斗争，非暴力运动给英国殖民主义者以沉重的打击。这种斗争的方式是由印度的经济落后和民族资产阶级的妥协性所决定的。
