我有以下几种说法，但都存在问题。希望高手一一解答。
①to me作宾语，因为send是双宾动词（谓语+双宾语），所以to me是宾语，但问题是介词短语一般不作宾语，宾语最多是me。这么理解对吗？
②to me作状语，修饰send，好比一个“介词加地点名词”形成的地点状语，但又不算地点状语。但问题是一般删除忽略状语并不影响句子完整性的，可to me删除后原句不通了。
③to me作补语，修饰e-mail，书法书上有介词短语作补语的说法（如They PUT everything in order）。但括号里的put是宾补动词（谓语+宾语+补语），in order自然可以称为补语，而send是双宾动词（谓语+双宾语），后面的to me有什么理由要称为补语。
④to me作后置定语，介词短语作后置定语，如Pass me the book on the desk，但这里显然有点不一样，不是后置定语。我只是想知道“介词短语”在句子中“作后置定语”与“作补语”来修饰他们前面的“宾语”的区别，（比如They PUT everything in order和Pass me the book on the desk两句话，in order修饰everything与on the desk修饰the book有什么区别。还有Pass me the book on the desk中的on the desk为什么不能说是状语，on the desk似乎可以删除和忽略啊。就是因为它不是修饰pass这个谓语，而是修饰the book这个宾语，所以才被认定为后置定语吗？

I put the book on the desk
He paid the rent to the landlord
这里behind their backs，on the desk，to the landlord在句子中又分别做什么成分？

还有双宾动词后面一定要有两个宾语吗？

其实我觉得这个问题没有必要分析的这么清楚，其实提问题的这位大哥/大姐，感觉你是在用一种中文的方式来解释英文，感觉是在钻牛角尖了。。。

They put everything in order.和Pass me the book on the desk.区分的话，简单来说可以翻译一下，能翻译成“……的”的是定语（放在后面就是后置定语）。the book on the desk译“成桌上的”那本书，所以是定语。
单独摘出everything in order显然不合理，而是 put ... in order。
以我的经验，没必要分那么清楚，因为不考，会用就行，细抠反而容易进入误区。
