Artistically those years bore abundant fruit：of the 500-odd Churchill canvases in existance，roughly half date from 1930 to 1939. 我问了老师为什么in existance不是be in existance,她说因为冒号后的部分都是修饰abundant fruit的，所以谓语动词为bore，就不用be了，这个我明白，但是为什么可以这样用呢？英语中冒号修饰的用法具体是怎样的？而且我觉得in existance还是怪怪的！解释一下~举例说明~谢谢！

‘in existance’是介词短语，直接做‘Churchill canvases’的后置定语。
