从 can we stop the death这句开始吧
因为death前加了个定冠词the，所以变得是有所指的 - 那场死亡。 比如说在事故现场，记者面对镜头痛心疾首的说：Can we stop the death?....

这里并没有表示出“普遍意义上”的death. 所以就应该说：
Can we stop death?
