农村医疗问题一直是困扰我国社会的一个普遍问题，不管是在学术界还是在政策制定领域都对其进行过深入研究，但收效甚微。近年来，社会资本理论在社会学界兴起，用社会资本理论来解释社会问题的文章屡见不鲜，但很少见到用社会资本理论来研究医疗问题。改革开放以来，中国农村社会经历了快速的经济增长和巨大的社会变革，与此同时中国农村社会又保留了很多传统特征，如人际关系，社交网络等。本文正是在此背景下，将社会资本与农村村民的医疗行为结合起来进行研究，目的是为了进一步探讨社会资本在中国农村的表现形式，社会资本与医疗行为的关系，以及社会资本对医疗行为的影响，并为改善农村居民健康提供干预措施和政策依据。
本文首先在文献研究的基础上，概述了社会资本的国内外研究现状和社会学领域对于社会资本与医疗方面的研究，并从中梳理出本文的研究框架。其次，从社会资本的角度，运用问卷、深入访谈、比较研究等研究方法，对社会资本与农民医疗行为的影响进行研究。研究内容分为三个部分:第一部分，以如东县凌边村为个案典型，从三个方面来描述农村社会资本现状；第二部分，将社会资本嵌入到农村村民的医疗行为中，进行了原因和过程分析，并且对比了强弱社会资本群体的现状；第三部分，进行功能分析，详细论述了社会资本对村民医疗行为的影响；第四部分，建议总结，通过培育农村社会资本，提高村民的健康水平。
