错误:This pair of shoes are nearly one hundred yuan.
正确:This pair of shoes is nearly one hundred yuan.
pants不是应该用are的吗?
(第二句话是正确的,但我不明白为什么?)

谓语决定于量词。this pair一双。中文就可以理解。数量为一。用单数。
如果是two pairs 就要用are了。
pants 如果是a pair of pants 就用单数。而且一般说裤子也是这么说。一条裤子。
或者是these pants。总之不能用this that 。
