In ancient China purple was the noble color for the minister.
As a native Chinese religion, Taoism plays an important role in Chinese culture. In the astrology of Taoism, “紫微垣”is located in the center and it is said to be the palace of the gods. Thus, purple is worshiped by Taoists. Taoism scripture was called“紫书”; the Jade Emperor was called“紫皇”; his queen was named“紫妃”; “the Son of the Heaven”, that is the emperor in the mundane world, lived in“紫禁城”.

总的来说，应该是古时指神圣，庄严，道教多以紫为尊，道家盛行时皇家也多以其为尊
