forest可数不可数?

The forest continues for miles. 请具体分析一下这句话, forest是不是可数名次? 如果是可数名词,后面的 continues 为什么要用第3人称单数形式

forest应该是不可数的，我觉得应该看一下前后文，但这一句话要是continue加s可能是因为把这一片森林看成了一个整体了。
