"The customer went to Japan robbed by a pirate."
I know how to make the latter right, I don't understand why the former one is right as its structure look just the same to the latter.
I'm so perplexed, Please help!

我知道前一句肯定是对的，这是常用的说法，后一句毫无疑问是错的。我不懂语法。要是从语法角度，不知道怎么给你分析。或许是前句的stunned是修饰trips的，而后一句的robbed是修饰Japan的当然不对。
Formally, rob is not followed by the word "by". E.g., My wallet's gone! I've been robbed! But informally, we could use this sentence like "Families robbed by Gooch gang" which comes from BBC news title.

His clients (who) returned from their initial trips to China WERE stunned by how quickly factories became proficient.
