books可以，the book不行。

this kind of book ＝ 这样的书
this kind of book ＝ 这样的书（代表一些书）
this kind of the book ＝ 语法错误，这种短语里的of后面不能有冠词

this kind of the book,表示的是特定种类的一种书，虽然说是泛指，但它也有一个特定的限定。而this kind of book，就是最大化的泛指了。指代这种书。它已经是指代一种了，所以不再用books,为了与kind相呼应。

“this kind of book"怎么会是泛指呢?如果翻译为中文的话是"这一类的书" 当然就是特指啦 是对种类的限制啦~~~
