it是形式宾语，相信我吧，这种题目我做过N道了，上面的回答绝对是错的

A 首先排除 B 少了is D应该改为a 所以选C

A that后面更的是宾语从句，也可省略

A.that 引导宾语从句, 即: he found that it is difficult to....
B.it 同A, 省掉that,即: he found it is difficult to...
C.this 此处做宾语,后面的difficult to get to sleep 一起作为一个后置定语
D.one 因为后面有there, 所以这里应该是指定代词做宾语.

这道题考得是有点技巧, 我们通常情况下都用it is, 很少用this这样的形式.
所以我也是只有从每个答案的角度去考虑.
